Posting Request Form

Please read the following before deciding if you need signs or which sign you may wish to request.

• School trust lands are open to non-vehicular public access, unless posted with signs furnished free of charge by the Department of Trust Lands.
• People driving on school trust land or otherwise damaging school trust land or the lessee's property should be asked to leave.
• The general public is expected to respect the land, improvements and livestock.
• Only the lessee(s) and Department of Trust Lands personnel are authorized to drive on school trust lands and then for management purposes only.
• Lessees are not authorized to drive on school trust land when hunting.
• Signs must be renewed annually.

WALKING ACCESS SIGN: This sign reminds the public that only walking access is allowed on school trust lands and that vehicles must be left at the gate or section line. This is helpful when there have been previous occurrences of vehicles on the land. This sign is often requested when a lessee wants to remind people that access is strictly by walking and yet does not want to be bothered with people knocking on the door or calling throughout the hunting season. Requests for this sign can be filled immediately. If you have a need to lock the please let us know also.

NOTIFY SIGN: For the protection of the lessee’s personal property, this sign requires that anyone entering school trust land must first notify the lessee. Notification of the lessee can be as simple as a postcard, a message on an answering machine, or a note in the door. This sign simply requires notification and the lessee may let the public know about conditions on the land, others who are hunting or ask them to be careful but the lessee may not refuse access or place conditions on access unless it is a person that has abused the land or personal property in the past. Requests for this sing can be filled immediately.

CLOSED SIGN: Please give careful consideration to the date you expect to remove the livestock from school trust land and use that date as your end date if you are requesting "Closed" signs. Cattle are normally taken out of pastures by the time the water freezes, and we can’t approve requests for "Closed" signs with an end date of December 31st without further explanation. No one may hunt "Closed" tracts, including the lessee. Closure of school trust lands is at the Commissioner’s discretion. “Closed” tracts will be inspected in early November. Please allow a minimum of two weeks to receive these signs.
